About the Scottish Youth Parliament (SYP)…

The Scottish Youth Parliament (SYP) represents Scotland’s young people.

The charity’s vision for Scotland is of a nation that actively listens to and values the meaningful participation of its children and young people.

SYP’s goal is to make this vision a reality, in order to ensure Scotland is the best
place in the world to grow up.

Every two years, an election is held nationwide to elect approximately 160 young people to represent each parliamentary constituency and eleven National Voluntary Organisations.

How does SYP engage with young people?

SYP provides opportunities for young people to discuss the issues that matter most to them. This is done through:

  • Three National Sittings each year.

  • Consultation work led by Members of the Scottish Youth Parliament (MSYPs) in their local constituencies or National Voluntary Organisations.

  • Sharing news of opportunities on SYP’s social media channels.
